The day I listened to a song of Ashbury Heights for the first time I was in Granada, in a gothic pub called UNTOTEN. We had to ask about the song we were listening… It was so melodic and catchy!! They told us the name of the group, and the next day we were looking for info about them in the web.
I knew that Out of line was releasing their CD, as I check their web regularly searching for news… I had seen the coverart before in their ‘new releases’ section, but I didn’t pay a lot of attention to it as I was eclipsed with the UnterArt ‘Memento’! (And I’m still crazy about it! I don’t know why I extremely love their music above the rest… Sometimes I feel like a mad teenager fan… :S).
The thing is that after listening to the music of Ashbury Heights I think a new style in futurepop is coming… They make fresh tracks, they have wonderful melodies and high quality voice effects; but at the same time their music is so accessible, that it would perfectly fit in any MTV show…
You should listen to “Bare Your Teeth”, with a starting melody that augurs what you’re gonna find in the CD. I also love “Smaller” (a great chorus that makes you sing though you don’t want to), and “Penance”…
I’m longing for the day that dark electro music becomes successful out of the dark scene!
